develop, finance and manage their own local power generation. Our experience includes:

  • Delivered community owned renewables from solar panels on school roofs to MW-scale
    community-owned solar farms
  • £78million of capital raised including £17million from over 2,000 community investors, bank
    project finance, council loans and social investment funds
  • Manage over 100 megawatts of MW-scale community solar and wind across 10 localities.
    Projected to generate over £35million of surplus income (after operating and finance costs)
    to support net zero transition, fuel poverty and community projects in their localities over
    the next 25+ years

CfR’s services and experience covers all aspects of developing, financing and running a local power
project including:

  • Enterprise set-up (including company formation, business planning, governance set-up,
    policies, company admin set-up and community and stakeholder engagement);
  • Project development (including feasibility studies, planning consent, landowner engagement
    and legal agreements, grid connection and construction contractor procurement);
  • Shared ownership – managing the purchase of development-stage and operational projects
    from commercial developers into community ownership;
  • Raising construction and long-term finance from commercial lenders, social investors and
    community share / bond offers;
  • Ongoing company and asset management covering all aspects of running a community
    energy project and company on behalf of the board and members.

The role
The role would suit a renewable energy engineering graduate with evidenced skills in: technical
analysis, project management, report writing and clear communications. Candidates will need to
demonstrate an interest and commitment to CfR’s mission and to living and working in Cornwall.
1/ Community solar asset management
The core responsibilities are set out below. These are based on CfR’s company and asset
management scope of services. This may include:

  • Daily checking of monitoring systems for each community solar project for early
    identification of faults.
  • Monthly and quarterly analysis of performance against P50/P75/P90 and performance ratio
    projections.
  • Management of CfR’s asset management data platforms.
  • Preparation of monthly / quarterly / annual reports to the community energy enterprise
    boards and funders to include technical performance of assets, operations and maintenance
    activities, and grid outages.
  • Support CfR’s Project Managers with site visits, O&M and other operations contractor
    management, PPA tenders and FiT submissions.
  • In time take responsibility for managing a client community energy enterprise, with support
    from the team.

2/ New project feasibility and development

Supporting new project feasibility and development work. This may include:

  • Technical feasibility studies for new projects, including resource assessments and outline
    project designs.
  • Constraints mapping and analysis.
  • Financial modelling.
  • Grid application submissions and management.
  • Managing specialist sub-contractors.
  • Feasibility report writing.
  • Supporting the development team to manage new MW-scale community solar and wind
    projects through the development process (including planning and environmental impact
    assessment, community engagement, grid connection, landowner agreements, design,
    procurement, construction contractor management and financing).

3/ Other

Support the CfR team with other work which may include:

  • Management of feasibility studies, proposals, procurement and installation contractor
    management for roof-top solar installations on schools and community buildings funded by
    surplus incomes from the big community solar farms CfR manages;
  • Helping to organise and deliver school visits to community solar farms.

Further details

Location: Redruth House, Cornwall Business Park West, Scorrier TR16 5EZ (min 3 days
per week) and home working. Note we will be moving office to near Bissoe.

Salary

£28,000 per year to be reviewed after 1 year
Eligible for CfR team bonus and EV scheme after 1 year
Salary to increase with inflation each year
Basic pension package

Holiday: 25 days pro rata + bank holidays

Term: Permanent, subject to 6 month probation period with 3 and 6 month review

Training: A personal training programme will be developed depending on needs and
funding available.
